Energy healing — with Cicely or Annelie

Reiki

A spiritual energy healing tradition rediscovered in the 1800s by Dr Mikao Usui. Reiki is mainly used to reduce stress and relax the body, and to promote healing.

Reiki

What is its history?

Little is known about the early origins of Reiki, but it was rediscovered in the 1800s by Buddhist monk Dr Mikao Usui. He was teaching in a college when a student asked how Jesus performed his healing miracles. This prompted Dr Usui to set out on a quest. His journey took him to many countries including the holy mountains of Kori Yama. There he attained a high altered state of consciousness by fasting and meditating for 21 days, and became enlightened by great spiritual energy bringing with it Reiki Ryoho — the ability to heal.

How is it performed?

Reiki is a spiritual force. Its power comes from above. It enters at the top of the head and flows through the body and out through the hands. Treatment is administered by the laying of hands — the practitioner places their hands on or near the body in a sequence of positions around the head, shoulders, stomach and feet. Each position is concentrated on for 3 to 10 minutes. The whole treatment lasts between 45 minutes to an hour and a half. The patient is fully clothed throughout.

What does it feel like?

In addition to a feeling of deep relaxation you should also feel a glow flowing through and surrounding your whole body. During treatment you are encouraged to let go of all anxiety, tension and fear — bringing about a sense of peace and calm and wellbeing. At the end of the session you should feel refreshed, relaxed and a lot more positive and balanced.

How people use Reiki

Many people choose Reiki as a complementary practice for relaxation, emotional support and general wellbeing. It may help some people feel calmer, more settled and more able to rest. Reiki is not a replacement for medical care, diagnosis or treatment, and anyone with health concerns should speak with a qualified healthcare professional.
